Alfred Coffee – Beverly Boulevard

Located on Beverly Boulevard, this project transformed an existing retail tenant space into a specialty coffee shop through a change of use and comprehensive tenant improvement. As the Architect of Record, I prepared the architectural construction documents, coordinated with engineering consultants, and guided the project through Building and Health Department approvals. The project included accessibility upgrades, space planning, and code-compliant design tailored to the operational needs of Alfred Coffee. 

The project is housed within the iconic LA Eyeworks building, designed by internationally recognized architect Neil Denari, one of Los Angeles’ most influential contemporary architects. Completed in the late 1980s, the building became an early example of Denari’s experimental architectural language, characterized by bold geometric forms, expressive industrial materials, and a distinctly modern aesthetic. His work helped redefine the architectural identity of Los Angeles by merging innovative design with urban retail environments.

Working within a building of such architectural significance required a thoughtful approach that respected Denari’s original vision while carefully adapting the space for a contemporary café. The tenant improvement preserved the existing architectural character and integrated the new coffee shop program without compromising the building’s distinctive design identity.
